Take each note, big one first
In the desktop app, open the Pay tab, paste a code under "A code you were given" and press Take it. In the terminal wallet, receive <code> does the same. Go top to bottom: the 10 first, then the 1, then the 0.1.
It is yours from that moment
Your wallet checks each note on the chain and at once turns its lock, so the code on this page can never be used again. Into a brand-new wallet, the first turn pays its fee out of the big note itself, so you receive the value as a spread of smaller notes, which is what you want for paying and being paid.
